This messed up world needs more of you

Attention spans are fractured. Emotional regulation is collapsing. Tolerance for complexity has bottomed out. The news cycle produces panic faster than anyone can process it. Crime is climbing. Online crime is skyrocketing. Crypto is laundering money into the dark web and the dark web is bleeding into the street.

Therapy is not a luxury anymore. It was never supposed to be. A therapist used to be something you saw if you were a suburban housewife with depression. Now every demographic needs one. Politicians need someone to tell them to stop. Teenagers in their tweens need someone who can name what’s happening to them. Forty-year-olds need help finding ground they lost.

The world needs effective therapists more than it ever has.

But you can’t get clients because you can’t deliver fast enough.

There are more of you now than there have ever been. You’d think that would mean more people getting help. Instead, your phone doesn’t ring, or it rings once and they don’t come back. They don’t tell their friends it was worth it. They got insight. They got understanding. They didn’t get their lives back.

Your client comes to you with a problem that matters. You see the pattern. You see what she’s doing to herself. You know exactly what needs to shift. Instead of naming it, you build safety. You help her arrive at the understanding herself because that’s what you were trained to do. Six months later, she’s spent three thousand dollars and her marriage is worse and her job is in question. She stops coming because she ran out of runway.

This is not a failure of your skill. This is a failure of your timeline.

Change has to happen inside the sessions, not after eighteen months of insight. Your client comes in stuck on Tuesday and goes home different on Tuesday, or she goes home and waits for the next appointment and life decides for her.

Permanent change means the consequences of what you do ripple into your client’s future behavior and their social system. Not eventually. Now. Within the first sessions. Fast enough that they can tell their friends something actually happened.

You have the capacity to do this work. Your training probably didn’t teach you how.
